Ideas and development

My original idea for this project has now changed due to the amount of time I have left, this is down to me being heavily involved in the world skills competition.

My first thought for this project was to produce a short music video 1-2 min using either simple footage that I could collect or royalty free footage that I could find online. This would allow me to concentrate heavily on editing and how I cut together music and footage together to create a sense of style. After consideration I feel that this project would be potentially difficult to do over the time that I have left as it will take a while to gather the amount of footage that I would need.

One of my peers, Kitty, is also struggling for time so it was suggested to us that we could work together. We had a short chat and talked about producing a simple, live multi camera music video. We felt like this would be a good idea as it would allow Kitty to concentrate on her specialism (cinematography) with aspects such as lighting, composition and mise en scene. It would also allow me to explore my specialism (editing) with how I cut and stylize the shots together. Working with multiple cameras and syncing everything up will also be good experience as i’ve only done it this way once before in the ‘multi camera project’ from last year.

Planning brain storm – a rough list of the things we need to plan and sort out

.Band/performer and song

.Sound recordist – music department

.Equipment – cameras, lights, rigs, instruments, sound

.Floor plan/shot list

.Crew – Camera operators, sound technician, crowd extras?

.Location – thinking ‘The Venu’

.Rough storybord/edit plan

.Mood boards

.Multi camera research

The first step in this project will be talking to the music department to scout out a performer and song as this will ultimately decide the style of the film and how we go about doing it. The next step would be to finalise our location if this is in the venu then we will have to arrange to book it. Once these two aspects are decided we will have a good idea of the time we have for each area of production and can begin to generate ideas planning it out properly and effectively.

I feel as though this is a good example of the type of video we aim to produce. Overall it is quite a simple video all filmed in one location. They make use of basic camera movements and a very rustic look, this creates a very homely and inviting feel.I feel this type of video would be good as it will allow to create a simple, clean and well cut film while still leaving room to experiment a little.
