Projection Mapping

Projection mapping is a system used to turn 3D objects into a display surface, these can range from buildings to small indoor objects. The technique can also be referred to as ‘spatial augmented reality’ or ‘video mapping’.

In order to accurately map your footage onto the display surface a professional software is used, this software allows you to change the angle that the projector emits light, altering how the image is displayed.

In this video projection mapping and sound are used to create a simplistic light show. Their display surface is a collection of cubes and the walls behind them. I found this display to be simple yet effective, using mainly colours, patterns and sound in harmony. I personally like how the images matched the music to create a visual representation of the sound, somewhat similar to an equalizer bar.

This is a higher end production still using mainly projection mapping techniques, with the addition of various prop changes. The entire set is projected in, making the whole performance that much more impressive. Unlike the previous film this one has moving and changing surfaces meaning that the production process was significantly more complicated as each prop that is being projected onto needs to be in exactly the right place.
